What next? Building an ADU in San Diego County

This will become our new bathroom and laundry room
I moved back to San Diego after a 30 year absence to spend time with and help my Mom. I found the man of my dreams and married him. My Mom asked if we could be closer to her so we all decided that building an ADU in Fallbrook would be a great idea.
As this adventure moves along I have found some things a bit challenging. Mom's storage buildings, mature trees and cacti. We have to work around all of them, if possible.
In the previous blog I mentioned we had to make some changes. We have had to adjust our plans and plot layout for the  ADU because of emergency power lines. Then I realized that now the garage layout, footprint will not work, unless we want a 4 foot wide backyard. That's not happening.
New layout for our ADU

A renovation is about to happen.
Success, garage has been moved over 15 feet. The huge Cactus will have to be removed, but we can save the lime tree (fingers crossed). The Architect now has the plans to work on for structural plans. So now we wait for that to be finished and then it goes  through a Title 24 review, this is all about energy efficiency here in California.
Our new temporary home
In the meantime, we are busy packing the house up, figuring out what and how we are going to live for the next several months in our new temporary home, and getting it a point where we (Tim, me and the 2 kids - Zeus and Yin Yang) can be comfortable. Definitely going to be doing a renovation. We purchased a used camper trailer, a 2000 TrailManor. I found it online through an app called LetGo.  Opened up, the trailer is 28 feet long with plenty of room for us. It will be home for awhile, with access to Mom's house of course. Kitchen and bathroom being completely available to us.. The trailer was a good choice. We won't have to pay rent and a mortgage anymore and, we can use it for weekends at the beach or mountains after we move into our new house.

With the temporary home out of the way, we are now waiting for the plans to be finished and to move forward on all of this. The builder is waiting, SDG&E is waiting for building permit so that they can do their work. Septic company is waiting for the same, before he takes the next step.

We have purchased french doors and some new windows for the house from a salvage company in San Marcos CA called Builders Trading Company. A whole bunch cool building supplies. He takes items on consignment. We also bought 5 brand new windows($200 a piece or less), used doors ($50 or less), brand new sinks for bathroom ($15 each) and a brand new under mount kitchen stainless steel sink ($25) at Re-Store - Habitat for Humanity. These were fantastic buys. You never know what you will find when you go into a Re-Store. Grab it, because it won't be there next time.
Another really fun store to visit is a place near Little Italy in San Diego called Architectural Salvage.
We found our awesome new front doors. two very heavy carved seven and a half foot tall, thirty six inch wide with large window and wrought iron at an amazing price. I am designing the glass work for these two. I can not wait.

Off to do more packing. Will keep you updated on how things are going.
